First Retightening

While I was in DC for Mother’s day weekend, I had my first retighten on May 10th. It was actually the day I went to see Ms. Badu. My consultant said my hair is doing well, and that I only had a few slippages. My 1st retighten took almost four hours. I asked her to retighten my hair going back because it was difficult to get the part in the middle out. However, most of the time I’m styling my hair with the part in the middle. My 2nd retighten will be done in AZ. I’m a little nervous but the consultant in AZ is very nice and seems to be about business. She actually did a good job on my sisterlocks samples. So, my hair will be maintained by two consultants. Will keep ya posted. Until then… Have A Bless Day!!!!

Mother's Day Weekend

Mother’s Day Weekend

Reflecting: Three weeks ago my son went to his Jr Prom , and I was thinking to myself wow time doesn’t wait on no one. I cannot believe he is 17 years old. I was so happy, and then started to think what am I going to do when he goes off to college. I enjoy being a mother. Kids are such a blessing and although I am what they consider the at risk age because I’m in my late 30’s… I would love to have a baby girl.

My Sweet Loving Mother

I enjoy my Mother’s Day weekend. I flew into Washington, DC for 3 days to spend the weekend with my mother. We had a wonderful time. Although it rain every day, it didn’t stop us from going out and enjoying ourselves. We visit the new National Harbor off the Potomac River in Prince George's County, MD, we went out to eat, watch movies, and on Saturday I went to see my girl Erykah Badu in Baltimore. It’s been years since I seen Ms. Badu, and her songs does her no justice. You have to see her in concert; the girl can blow, got some rhythm, and very entertaining. I like Erykah because she is down to earth, and keep it real. Check out how she just pulled her featherlike hat off and continue to jam. I often get stop and is told by strangers that I look like Erykah Badu… nice compliment because I think she have natural beauty. What ya think? Check out Badu videos.

2nd Wash Before My 1st Retightening

Ok, my second wash was 3 wks of being sisterlocked. I had the hardest time as mentioned before with the rubberbands, and this time when I tried to cut the bands off…I cut my hair by accident. So, I will not be using rubberbands anymore. Below are pictures after my second wash.

Tomoka's Twist

After 2 weeks I tried to get a little fancy, so I ordered some hair accessories the Tomoka's twist. At first, I had a little trouble trying to get it on, but I got the hang of it. I think they are a nice alternative for putting your hair back. Thanks Carmen!

My Transitional Days

Below are some pics of me back in the days. Well, actually it's been a little over a year since I've been natural. I received my first perm at age 13. I will never forget that day; I was so excited because it symbolized back then I was growing up. Over the years, I had many experiences bad and good with perms. The idea of going natural was out of the questions because I had no idea how to take care of natural hair. I was definitely brainwashed to believe natural hair is difficult to manage, and I wasn't aware of the different label texture types. Before my awakening, natural to me was associated with nappy and ugly. However, relocating to AZ, initiated my natural liberation because it was very frustrating finding a hair stylist and the dry heat in AZ was bad for my hair. My hair was always dry, hard, and started to break. It didn't look healthy, so I desperately needed a change. I decided to let the perm grow out but the transition wasn't easy. I transitioned with kinky twist, individual braids, press and curl. I noticed that the edges of my hair were breaking because of the tight braids. After getting frustrated again, I did my homework and found natural websites with loads of information and that was the beginning of my relationship with my natural hair. I cut the perm off, order books, and was empowered to begin taking care of my hair.
